  Lionel pursued a university education as a physician, qualifying as an engineer at the ENSPG (physics) and obtaining a phd from the UJF (in nano electronics). He worked for 2 years as a teacher and researcher in Grenoble at the LPSC (electronics). Following an encounter with contemporary dance, in particular with the work of the Pascoli company, he branched out into a singular research on the relationship between images and the stage, aiming to make this media an actor in its own right in the performing arts, on a par with dance, texts, sound and lighting.
  Lionel Palun is a co-founder of the Association 720 Digital, a member of Collégiale du 102, a member of the editorial committee of the quarterly magazine Revue & Corrigée and was on the board of directors of CitéDanse for 5 years.
  Since September 2017, Lionel Palun has been an associate artist at the Hexagone Scène Nationale Arts-Sciences de Meylan as part of a three-year residency funded by the Conseil Départemental de l’Isère.

  Duo and Improvisation:
  The core of his present research is a series of duos (generally improvised) that explore possible relationships between images and the other performing arts (Image/Dance, Image/Theatre, Image/Music, Image/Lighting, Video/Film…). The lightness of the duo makes it possible to combine the demands of a refined research with regular encounters with the public. These studies have enabled him to work with artists as diverse as Jérôme Noetinger, Will Guthrie, Riojim, Christophe Cardoen, Delphine Dolce and Dominique Lentin. That is where the alchemy that sustains his work developed.
  Art installations:
  Lionel Palun is regularly invited to present video and sound installations: Condition Publique in Roubaix, Nuit Blanche in Metz, Collectif Brouhaha…
  Video performance: Video performance is a tool for research and creative residencies in situ. It can either be a motor for starting the writing process or proposed as a singular form.
  Video creations:
  for dance and theatre pieces or concerts in collaboration with film directors, choreographers, musicians and collectives (Camel Zekri, Yann Lheureux, Frédéric Tentelier, Broadway, Pascal Mengelle, Cédric Marchal, Anne-Marie Pascoli,…) These video creations (written scores or improvisations) are an opportunity for artists to compare the written compositions of other artists.
  Sound creation: By physically diverting a video signal, he develops original digital tools in order to project the video signal into the speakers …
  Workshops and educational presentations:
  He regularly leads workshops for different audiences: Fine arts students, primary schools (Lumix project with Association Muzzix) and community centres. He also ran a course of mise en scene and an introduction to light images for Kaléidoscope, a project for the Opera de Lyon.
  Software design:
  Besides mastering the professional tools of digital imagery and multimedia, his university education and work led him to developing his own software programme, In Videre for creating and diffusing images. This programme is both a tool for video production and an original instrument for improvisation and video performances.

• Jérôme Noetinger

  “In my live work, I want to always remember that sound is only a vibration of the air. I try to build some kind of sound environment or sound architecture with different strategies”.

  Born April 1966, in Marseille, Jérôme Noetinger discovered experimental music under the influence of the Déficit Des Années Antérieures in Caen.

  • Composer/improviser/sound artist working with electroacoustic devices. Composing musique concrete in the studio, and performing improvised music using electroacoustic devices such as: the reel to reel tape recorder Revox A77 and magnetic tape, analogue synthesisers, mixing desks, speakers, microphones, various electronic household objects and home-made electronica. Performing both solo and in ensembles, and collaborating often, and touring extensively internationally.
  • Director of Metamkine, non-profit organisation dedicated to the distribution of improvised and electroacoustic music, which operates with an on-line mail order catalogue.
  • Member of editorial committee of quarterly journal of contemporary sound, poetry and performance, Revue & Corrigée since 1987
  • Studied electronic music under the direction of Xavier Garcia from 1986 -1988 at COREAM in Fontaine.
  • Organises studio workshops and conferences around such subjects as: musique concrete, improvisation, audiovisual experiments,  questions of distribution and production.
  • Active in the international music network since 1984 working with music, dance, films and painting

  1987 – present  Founding member of Cellule d’Intervention Metamkine with Christophe Auger and Xavier Quérel. Performing with 16mm projectors and improvised music with electroacoustic devices in the grand tradition of ‘cinema elargi’. Since their inception, they have presented their work at many festivals, cinemas, galleries and independent spaces in France, Europe, Canada,US, Japan and Australia. Collaborating also with such groups as Nachtluft, Voicecrack, Kinobits, Loophole Cinema, Tom Cora, La Flibuste ou Le Coube (with Gaëlle Rouard, Etienne Caire, Christophe Cardoen et Lionel Marchetti)

  1988 -1989 Duo Appel à Tous with Richard Antez.

  1993 – present Duo with Lionel Marchetti. This duo improvises by manipulating different objects with/on various objects ranging from a piano frame to reel to reel Revox, mixing desk, microphones, speakers, cassettes… where they mix acoustic sounds with recordings and retrieved recordings. Collaboration and exchange being part of their continual practice, this duo works regularly with other musicians such as Sophie Agnel, Martine Altenburger, Isabelle Berteletti, Emmanuel Petit, Mathieu Chamagne, Voice Crack, Andrea Neumann, Axel Dörner, Nmperign, le Collectif Ishtar…

  1997 – present member of MIMEO (Music In Movement Electronic Orchestra)MIMEO is a project of English guitarist Keith Rowe (of the group AMM) bringing together eleven musicians all using electronic devices in their work.   2007 – present Qwat Neum Sixx with Daunik Lazro (sax), Sophie Agnel (piano), Michael Nick (violin) Joining together acoustic and electronic sources of sound, which  aims to question the instrumental limits and nature of the musical object.

  2008  ‘Spool’ first collaboration with Liz Rácz (visual artist) conducted via email, sketches and letters and tape loops sent for installation at Lupa/art Melbourne in June. « Renovation » second collaboration with Liz Rácz in Rives, France, in November.
